FLINDERS QUARTET'S 2025 EMERGE COMPOSER PROGRAM

SUBMISSION TERMS & CONDITIONS:

FQ’s Emerge program is a year-long score-study, development and mentorship program for emerging Australian composers passionate about writing for string quartet. No age or gender restrictions apply.

Composers must be Australian citizens or permanent residents with an Australian home address, and consider themselves emerging composers.

SUBMISSION REQUIREMENTS

  1. A completed entry form submitted online by 30 November 2024 (5pm AEDT): available here

  2. Up to three examples of previous composition work, preferably chamber music, in PDF format, uploaded into the entry form (limit of 10MB per file) or emailed to admin@flindersquartet.com

  3. Optional filmed performances or mp3 midi file/s of previous composition work emailed to admin@flindersquartet.com

The successful composers will be notified by the end of December 2024, and the program will run from late January to early December 2025.

It is a condition of submission that the successful composers allow use of their name and image for media and publicity purposes and make themselves available for media interviews as required.

Submissions are open to composers anywhere in Australia, and Flinders Quartet will provide a travel stipend to any participants who reside outside of the Melbourne area to enable them to attend the in-person workshops and final performance. If a participating composer is not able to be present in person, FQ will endeavour to organise a video conference-style workshop.

Successful composers will participate in a year-long score study, creative development and mentorship program, culminating in the composition of approximately 6-minutes of music to be performed, studio-recorded and filmed by Flinders Quartet and promoted on FQ Digital. For the 2025 Emerge program, the works created will be shaped by a brief as part of a partnership with the renowned Hush Foundation.

The judges' decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into.
