Community Concert
Flinders Quartet X City of Melbourne
Flinders Quartet have toured Sweden, Finland, UK, Canada, and Singapore, and while we frequently perform throughout Australia, Melbourne is where we call home. You might have caught us during one of our open rehearsals at the Library at the Dock, adding the final touches to one of our concerts. Now, for the very first time, we are hosting a free community concert for the City of Melbourne, offering everyone a taste of the enchantment of chamber music.
Consisting of two violins, a viola, and a cello, the string quartet has been utilised by many of history's most renowned composers for their most intimate and heartfelt compositions—Beethoven, Mozart, Schubert, Dvorak, and in the 20th century, Bartok and Shostakovich. We have gained recognition for our efforts in uncovering lesser-known yet equally remarkable compositional voices such as Ethel Smyth, Elizabeth Maconchy, Amy Beach, and Margaret Sutherland, alongside our collaborations with contemporary Australian composers.
The concert will feature movements from string quartets by Beethoven and a piece by Caroline Shaw, recipient of the Pulitzer Prize for Music. The performance will run for 45 minutes with opportunities for the audience to come and go, and everyone is encouraged to attend.
Saturday 27 July, 2pm to 2.45pm
Performance Space, Library at the Dock
Victoria Harbour Promenade, Docklands
Tickets are free, but bookings are appreciated.
OPEN REHEARSALS AND WORKSHOPS
We have an upcoming open rehearsal and an Ascend composer development workshop in 2024, which are open to everyone for FREE.
