Beginning our story of Australia’s place in the lineage of great chamber music, Greenbaum cites Mozart in particular as having been a guiding force in his string quartet writing: ”...in the best works of Mozart, the elegance is genuine from the smallest harmonic sequence through to the larger architectural design. I’m especially intrigued by Mozart’s melodic contours, whose notes loop back inside others like an interlocking pattern you might see in Escher.”
As we embark on a new era for FQ, what better way to celebrate than pairing Greenbaum’s sixth quartet with three essential giants of the genre: Haydn, Mozart and Beethoven.
